Which Brand is Best to Enjoy Your Smart TV?

Man trying to choose from many different televisions

Smart TVs are the future of television. You might be thinking about which brand of smart TV you should invest in, and whether there is even a difference between the different brands, which is where this guide can help you.

Which Brand is Best to Enjoy Your Smart TV?

Samsung and LG are among the best brands for smart TVs at the moment. This is because these two brands are very innovative with technology, so buying either of them means that you’ll be accessing TV’s latest features.

Screen Quality

Most big TV brands have high-quality LED and LCD screens but, if you’re looking for something a little more special and cutting edge, then you’ll need to be looking out for cheap Samsung TVs and cheap LG TVs.

LG is the creator of the OLED screen, which is also used in various Sony products. An OLED screen will likely raise the price of your standard TV, but it is well worth it for the greater level of detail for colours. You can read more about how OLEDs work on our blog LG’s Rollable 4K Signature OLED TV.

Samsung have their own brand of smart screen technology called QLED. These screens also allow for better colour variations than their predecessors (LED and LCDs), so it is an equally worthwhile investment. You can read more about how QLEDs work on our blog Samsung Rolls Out 2019 QLED TVs.

If you are unsure whether a Samsung QLED or an LG OLED would suit your living room better, then we recommend visiting our showroom to compare the differences in picture quality for yourself. Both screen styles are equally stunning, so the decision will likely come down to a matter of preference.

More importantly for you to consider if you’re a real TV buff, however, might be the difference between LG’s Super UHD TVs and Samsung’s HDR10+. Depending on which content you watch and where you get it from, you may find that Samsung’s HDR10+ (favoured by Amazon Prime) is a better fit for you than Super UHD (favoured by Netflix).

Super UHD and HDR10+ are LG and Samsung’s respective names for their brand of ‘dynamic metadata’. These are processors (minicomputers inside your TV) which are responsible for further adjusting the colour, brightness, and contrast levels to reach optimum levels of image quality.

In the future, Samsung is considering releasing televisions with ‘QD-OLED’ screens. This is a suggested hybrid between Samsung’s QLEDs and LG’s OLEDs, but these televisions are expected to be a few years in the pipeline, so you shouldn’t hold off on our cheap TV deals while you wait for these televisions to escape the production line.

Sound Quality

Every TV needs great image and sound quality to deliver high-quality content, whether it’s smart or not. Both LG and Samsung have great sound systems integrated into their television, and most televisions buffs these days invest in external devices such as soundbars and surround systems.

Apps and Accessories

Both LG and Samsung have an incredible number of apps for you to download and access on your Smart TV and, while LG has a greater variety of apps available to users, the real question is whether you’ll be using any of those extra apps that aren’t available on Samsung’s systems.

In terms of all the big and important apps that you might want to download – iPlayer, Sky apps, Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube – both LG and Samsung have equal access. You could also consider smart TVs made by Sony, Panasonic and Phillips if you’re looking for television which can support those previously mentioned highly popular apps.

The Consensus

LG and Samsung have been making their smart TVs from scratch, whereas other brands have been borrowing the technology that LG and Samsung have pioneered to create the smart TV. For this reason, most discussions of which brand is best will compare Samsung against LG, but for general users of television this doesn’t mean that you should expect other brands to be anything less than an excellent investment for your entertainment.

We offer plenty of cheap 4K TVs (most of which are also cheap smart TVs), and we also have a section dedicated to cheap OLED TVs.
