You may have read our previous blog “4K-What’s it all About?” where you will have discovered all about the technical aspects of this wonderful technology. There’s no doubt about it, 4K TV sales are on the rise, with the 3840×2160 resolution making its way into more and more homes.
We’ve come a long way within TV tech, and once upon a time we were pretty happy with standard definition, or even 720p, (what about 1080p?) so what has changed and why should we care? The most obvious and perhaps the biggest benefit is that 4K TVs have much more on-screen detail – including extra sharpness. It’s called 4K because it has four times the resolution of the full HD picture – a whopping 3840×2160 pixels.
The hairs on people heads, the details of a leaf on a tree, every blade of grass through the football, every star in the sky…. In fact, everything you see on the screen will feel super immersive. 4K snaps onto specific detail in which an HD set simply can’t. As long as you are feeding your 4K TV a good quality 4K source your experience will feel almost like real life.
Image Depth
4K doesn’t just improve detail and sharpness – it also increases the depth of the pixels. This striking benefit is so amazing that some people who have witnessed 4K from a long-distance shot have mistaken it for glasses-free 3D!
You could be walking further and further away from your TV (depending on the screen size) and the detail won’t start to peter out. 4K’s ability to render the finer details makes you feel like you can see further before any image begins to flatten.
Colour Handling
When it comes to colour handling, there are simply so many pixels that the picture blends colour much smoother and subtlety. It makes it almost impossible to see any colour blocking, which adds to the sense that you are watching ‘real-life’.
The arrival of this format has got the entire world of AV thinking about other factors of picture quality. This has led to a huge discussion in new video standards which support wider colour ranges.
The benefits of 4K TVs seem to go on and on… these are just 3 of the what seems like an infinite list. 4K TVs also aren’t as expensive as you may think; despite them being relatively new and still a hot topic, their prices aren’t sky-high. Not only this, but the quality makes 3D much better, it gives you a more cinematic and immersive experience, and it also fits in with the desire to own bigger TVs.
