Live for Live TV

Charlo Green set the internet alight yesterday by quitting live on-air. After reporting on the Alaskan Cannabis Club, which provides medical marijuana for those with prescriptions, Green confessed that she was, in fact, the owner of the business. She followed that by announcing, ‘F**k it, I quit.’ You can see Green’s outburst here. But, obviously, it’s NSFW.

So with that that in mind, let’s check out some of the other great TV bloopers that make watching live TV so worthwhile.

Lulu the Elephant

This is one lass who won’t be winning a Blue Peter badge. Lulu the baby Elephant was brought on to the classic kid’s TV show, along with her handler, so the viewers could learn about – big shock – elephants. But the poor dear evidently let stage fright get the better of her as she ‘let herself down’ (as the Telegraph delightfully puts it) live on air. Presenters Valerie Singleton, John Noakes and Peter Purves did their best to carry on, but that’s not easy when you have an elephant goosing you, going to the toilet, then dragging her handler through the slush.

Saturday Night’s Not All Right

Can you imagine a less-talented singer than Ashlee Simpson, sister of only slightly more talented Jessica Simpson? Well, if you were in any doubt that pure nepotism has blessed this oxygen thief with fame, check out her appearance on America’s once-funny, now chronically unfunny Saturday Night Live. A-Simp, as the vacuous gossip rags would probably call her if they ever bothered to  write about her, didn’t just badly lip-sync to her track, she decided to do what can only be described as… well, it certainly wasn’t dancing. But it was pretty awkward. She blamed her band for the screw-up; the record company blamed technology. We blame the incident on a total lack of talent.

Paper-thin Presenting

It’s common these days to hear accusations of carbon copy presenters on the TV. ‘They all look alike,’ you’ll hear people say. Big hair, bright eyes, disgustingly beautiful people who barely look like actual humans. So we’d like to think that when BBC news broadcaster Simon McCoy appeared on-screen holding a wad of photocopy paper, it was some ingenious satire on a mono-cultural society. It wasn’t, of course. Instead of picking up an iPad, McCoy grabbed a pack of paper, and once he realised his mistake it was too late. So, like a trooper, he just ‘went with it.’
