My Cart - Sometimes there is news that’s so good, you either don’t believe it or you feel that there’s some sort of catch – well, this is one of those kind of scenarios. It has just been announced that the manufacturer LG is going to be cutting its retail prices of their brand new 4K OLED televisions in half! Yes, that’s right, half. This is good news to anyone who thought that saving for one of these beasts was nearly impossible, most likely being deceased before they were even close to being able to afford one.
However, this cut of the costs comes at a cost. For one, this deal only applies to the United States, with the manufacturer wanting to see how the sales figures go after this price reduction. Why? Well, the television market has always been a fruitful one, boasting a vast range of different models from different suppliers and countries, all with their own mix of gadgets and features. The reason it’s been so fruitful is the fact that almost everyone in the world owns or wishes to own a television, and it’s seen as an essential household item, alongside the oven and toilet!
But, with these new 4K TVs, the market has suffered somewhat. Many manufacturers such as LG have been so focussed on topping each other on what they can offer a customer, that they’ve alienated the general public, as the prices for this new bits of kit are beyond unaffordable for most people – ranging from £3,000 to £7,000 in some cases; a price which is out of reach for most people’s money jars. This price reduction is set to help boost the sales of 4K televisions while also promoting the advantages they can bring with more people owning the machines.
So what has the price gone down to? Well as it’s in American money, you’ll have to bear with us while we put on our smart hat (which definitely isn’t Google). The original prices of these televisions came out to between $5,499 and $6,999 which translates to about £3,600 and £4600 respectively but with these cuts they work out to about £2600 and £3600. Obviously this doesn’t make us jump with joy as the prices are still quite high but hopefully when they make the cuts over here, we might see a little bit more of a reduction!
