3D Vs. 2D

California State University scientists have recently carried out a research into the latest 3D viewing experience. The study involved four hundred students watching one of a selection of films in either 2D or 3D, and then asking them to rate various aspects of their viewing experiences. The results of which have led them to the following conclusion; watching 3D movies has perhaps been overhyped in the media. Previously, it has been suggested that watching 3-dimensional movies is a mind blowing experience, allowing the viewer to have a very realistic a sense of being immersed in part of the action, however there is much debate over the difference between 2d and 3d viewing. Samsung Introduces a Range of Smaller 3DTVs

Samsung will be offering smaller television sets with 3D technology in 2011. These new, smaller models will be equipped with a swivel base allowing up to 20 degrees of movement at any angle in any direction. The smaller screen is more accessible to the wider market, and can also be seen to have more of an aesthetic appeal due to the smaller, neater size that fits into any home. (more…)

Toshiba Unveils Glasses Free 3DTV

There’s been plenty written in the Press, this blog included, about the difficulties in getting 3DTV off the ground. Consumers aren’t quite as eager to embrace the new technology as manufactures initially anticipated thanks to the high price tag, lack of content and the requirement to wear 3D glasses, which in many cases were sold separately to the TVs! Computer Games to Boost Sales of 3DTV?

We’ve discussed 3DTV several times before in this blog and we tend to repeatedly reach the conclusion that due to the severe lack of content available 3DTV is something not really worth investing in for the meantime. Of course, this lack of actual viewable 3D content hasn’t stopped plenty of people from buying TVs that utilise this new technology, but it’s an unfortunate truth that for the meantime owners of 3DTVs are going to be watching a lot of 2D programs for the time being.
