Samsung Will Launch their New 8K TVs this Month

Whether you have just got used to 4K TVs or were thinking of getting one, the new generation of TVs is already here. Samsung will launch its new 8K TVs at the end of this month, a technology that boasts sharper, crisper and more realistic images than ever.

There may not be much 8K content to watch at the moment – with filmmakers and TV broadcasters mainly using 4K and driving the adoption of this technology – but the same was once true of 4K TVs, so that will eventually change.

Take a look below at what you can expect from the new Samsung televisions and how they will improve your viewing experience.

What is 8K?

First of all, let’s start by defining what 8K actually is. The obvious difference is the screen; 8K has four times as many pixels as 4K TVs and sixteen times as many pixels as full HD televisions. This is the equivalent of a horizontal resolution of 7,680 pixels and a vertical resolution of 4320p.

This technology has made leaps and bounds since its inception; NHK, Japan’s public broadcaster, was the first company to research and develop a 4320p resolution in 1995, and 8K is now estimated to become mainstream by 2023.

As we mentioned above, the film industry is currently the main user of 8K technology. There’s a good reason for this. The advanced cameras used by filmmakers offer incomparable quality and security, as well as freedom; by filming in such high resolution, there is more control during the production and post-production of films and TV programmes.

The New Samsung 8K TVs

Samsung announced its new Q900R QLED 8K TV at the IFA 2018 in Berlin, which should be available at the end of September. This TV will come in four different screen sizes: 56, 75, 82 and 85 inches – all massive televisions that are sure to make your favourite films and series even more immersive than before.

The South Korean brand is always innovating. Jongsuk Chu, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said in their press release: “At Samsung, we’ve worked tirelessly over the years to move the industry forward when it comes to premium picture quality, and the introduction of our QLED 8K with 8K AI Upscaling is an integral component as we look to the future of displays.”

The upscaling technology found this model uses artificial intelligence to improve the picture quality of the content, be it a box set you’re streaming or a game you’re playing. The way it works is that the TV detects anything that is below 4K quality and uses picture-processing technology to sharpen edges, reduce distortion and add extra details. All of this improves the quality of the image.

The new QLED TV will also feature a multitude of 8K-ready enhancements, such as Quantum Processor 8K and Real 8K Resolution. It will offer a lot more brightness as well; the latest 4K TVs are capable of 2,000 nit peak brightness while the 8K will offer 4,000 at its peak.

The price tag is probably what you’d expect for such a new and innovative technology. Even though there hasn’t been any official pricing from the brand, the new 8K TVs are expected to cost the equivalent of $10,000 – at least.

How Does 8K improve Your Experience?

Because the Samsung Q900R will come with deeper blacks and more vivid colours, images will be sharper and cleaner. As TV screens get bigger, the resolution becomes even more important, since details displayed on larger screens require more pixels. This is why it’s so easy for the new Samsung TVs to come in such large screens; you won’t lose any detail with the incredible resolution.

And it’s not just the image that gets better; the sense of depth that such high resolution (combined with a big screen) creates is without equal and will trick your eyes into believing that images on the screen are more immersive than they actually are. Add a wide screen to this, and you’ll find it easy to forget you’re not actually inside the screen, living the action alongside your favourite characters.

Technology doesn’t stand still. Researchers are continuously looking for ways to improve how we experience television; so it was only a matter of time before 8K became available as a TV resolution option. At Electronic World, we couldn’t be more thrilled with what the new 8K TVs mean for TV technology and for anyone looking to enjoy an ultra-realistic experience; we’ll be sure to keep you posted with our latest 8K TV Deals in the coming months.
