What TV Size Should You Buy? – Our Recommendations

The right TV size depends on a number of factors; your seating distance, your room, and your eyes. There is a direct correlation between the recommended screen size and seating distance. The further away you sit, the smaller your TV appears. The ideal situation you want to have is having a screen that fills a certain amount of your view, although many will differentiate on what ideal actually means.

When you’re thinking ‘what TV size should you buy’, it’s important to consider that most people sit about 9 feet (108 inches) from their TV, so it is recommended that if you watch your TV from a 40-degree angle, you will need a TV of around 55-60 inches. But, if you’re watching from a 30-degree angle, your TV should be between the sizes of 65-70 inches.

It all depends on your own preference, as you could comfortably view a 17-27-inch TV from between four to five feet, so they’re great for the bedroom or kitchen, or if you don’t want a TV to dominate your living room.

However, it is different for each person.  Here is an idea of the right distance for the right TV going from 4K TV’s with 1080p.

  • 40in = 6.7ft
  • 42in = 7ft
  • 48in = 8ft
  • 50in = 8.3ft
  • 54in = 9ft
  • 60in = 10ft
  • 65in = 10.8ft
  • 72in = 12ft

What’s Comfortable for You

Most people sit far enough away from a TV that the pixels don’t come factor into the equation. It is ideal to experiment with the placement of your TV, and it never hurts to go a little bigger than what TV size you think you should buy.

Many people can be overwhelmed by a large TV and feel a lot more comfortable with owning a smaller one, but it’s all down to what you think is best for you.
