How Important is the Size of a Television?

One of the things that convince people to buy a certain television is its size. People tend to assume that bigger is better, but that isn’t necessarily the case in every situation. Sure, having a huge television can be a great showpiece, but how practical is it to have a super large television?

However, when it comes to televisions, we know our onions, so we’ve decided to share with you how important the size of a television is, how practical it is in everyday situations, and what it can mean for you.

What Sizes of Television is Available?

Televisions come in all different sizes, but you probably won’t find a television that’s any smaller than 28 inches measured diagonally. The reason they aren’t made any smaller is because it can be quite difficult to make since you will need smaller processors, which can cost quite a bit of money.

The largest televisions that you will most likely see would typically be around 60 inches in diameter. However, the drawback with these is that, if you have a 60 inch original LED TV or even a 60 inch LCD TV, they can be relatively heavy; this is the reason why the larger televisions also have newer technologies that are implemented, such as OLED and high quality LED.

Does the Size Affect Your Viewing Experience?

The answer to this is simple; yes. If you have a large television, you don’t want to sit too close, otherwise, it will hurt your eyes due to the brightness of the television, and you also don’t want to sit too far away, otherwise you won’t benefit from the clarity of the display.

As such, people all around the world have conducted research into the optimum distance that you should be from your television screen depending on its size.

However, it is a completely arbitrary thing, as it is entirely dependent on the condition of the viewer’s eyes. But, as a general suggestion, it is said that depending on the size of the television, you should sit at least one and a half times the size of the television. For example, if your television is 50 inches in diameter, you should sit at least 75 inches, or 6.25 feet, away; this is a rough guideline for the closest you can be.

When it comes to understanding the furthest you can be from the television, it really depends on you; if you’re a certain distance away and you feel that the image quality isn’t as good as your thought, then you can move slightly closer and see what the quality is like afterwards; the same goes for the other way round – if you feel that your eyes are hurting, then you can move a little further away to give your eyes a little rest.

Does the Size of a Television Affect Its Resolution?

This is important, as people tend to buy televisions based on their resolution as opposed to their size, features, and even the brand. The important thing to know is that, with better technology coming out every year, the larger televisions tend to have the best resolution.

For example, if you had a 30 inch television, it could have 1080p resolution, or HD picture quality, However, it’s unlikely to see a 30 inch television that had 4K resolution. 4K resolution has four times a number of pixels as a 1080p resolution screen. As such, it means that more pixels are packed into the same space, which, for such a small television, would could a lot of money.

As such, it is much more cost effective to have a 4K television that is large as opposed to a small television that has 4K resolution; this is the reason why it is common to find televisions that are larger than 40 inches to have 4K resolution.

Does It Mean That It Will Be Difficult to Move?

What if you buy a large television, you install it, but you want to move it to somewhere else in the house? Luckily, television manufacturers always take this into account.

In the previous decades, television displays operated using cathode ray tubes, which were relatively large and heavy, which made them incredibly difficult to move around. However, as technology advanced, LED, LCD, and now OLED TVs became extremely popular, with the advancement of technology, came the drastic decrease in weight.

Now, you can buy a 60 inch OLED TV and it could weigh the same as a 32 inch LCD TV from the late 2000s.
