FAQs About 4K TVs

4K TV

With so many different options out there to choose from, you may be left feeling a little confused when choosing a new TV. There’s so much seemingly technical language and classifications for televisions which may seem to make little to no sense!

We think you should be equipped with all the facts you need before making a decision about a new television, so if you’re confused about all things 4K, keep reading and we hope to answer some of your questions.

What Does 4K Mean?

The most obvious question you may have is ‘what even is 4K?!’ We’re not surprised if you’re unsure about what a 4K TV actually is as the name doesn’t seem to give much away.

However, the answer actually is in the name. 4K refers to the resolution of the television. The cinema format uses 4096 x 2160 pixels, hence the 4 in 4K. This means that with four times as many pixels as 1080p, you get a far superior picture quality compared to other models below the 4K.

Is Ultra HD the Same Thing?

Ultra HD refers to a variety of televisions that meet certain specifications of being HD – 4K being one of these. So, just as all flamingos are birds but not all birds are flamingos, all 4K TVs are Ultra HD but not all Ultra HD TVs are 4K. 4K TVs, of course, being the flamingos in this analogy!

Is There Any 4K Content Out There?

Yes! Plenty of streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime offer some of their shows and movies (mostly their originals) in Ultra HD, and the list of 4K content continues to grow.

There are some things you will need to do to start streaming in 4K – check out this article that takes you through the steps to watch 4K on Netflix.

Is a 4K TV Worth it?

If you’re looking for a superior picture quality, a 4K TV is absolutely worth investing in. A 1080p TV is considered to be high definition and features just over 2 million pixels, whereas the 4K boasts an impressive 8.3 million pixels.

This also means that you can opt for a larger television in smaller rooms as you can sit closer to the television without the pixel grid becoming visible.
